Al Cossar is the Artistic Director of the Melbourne International Film Festival in Australia, where he has previously held roles of Programmer, Acting Artistic Director, and Associate Artistic Director, since joining festival staff in 2011. In regular/pre covid circumstances, MIFF is one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most significant film festivals, presenting a lineup of 380 films annually, as well as a variety of touring, industry-focused, and talent developmental initiatives. He has additionally held numerous positions within festivals and screen culture organisations in Melbourne and Sydney through organisations such as the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Human Rights and Arts Film Festival and Flickerfest; within post production supervision in New Zealand; and previously worked as a broadcast television film critic for ABC News Breakfast in Australia. He is permanently square-eyed, and happily so.
