MATTHEW RHODES (President) is a veteran motion picture and television producer and executive with over 25 years of experience. He has produced over 35 movies, worked with top tier directors, and notable stars. His movies have received box office success (over $1 Billion worldwide), terrific reviews and award-winning recognition. In July 2017, Rhodes became President of the financing and production company, The Hideaway Entertainment, a business built to support and protect the creative community. It was created to have a positive impact on the world by making premium content that is worthy of conversation for audiences worldwide. The company is focused on making movies, television and digital productions. The Hideaway co-financed and executive produced the action movie, MILE 22 (STX Entertainment), directed by Peter Berg and starring Mark Wahlberg, John Malkovich, Lauren Cohan, Iko Uwais and was released August 2018; the sci-fi comedy franchise, MEN IN BLACK: INTERNATIONAL (Sony), directed by F. Gary Gray and starring Chris Hemsworth, Liam Neeson, Tessa Thompson, Emma Thompson, Rebecca Ferguson, Kumail Nanjiani, and was released June 2019; and the sci-fi action movie, BLOODSHOT (Sony), directed by Dave Wilson and starring Vin Diesel, Guy Pearce, Eiza Gonzalez, Sam Heughan, Toby Kebbell, Lamorne Morris. It was released March 2020 and is based on the Valiant comic book of the same name; The Hideaway co-financed and produced the drama, CHERRY (Apple TV+), along with AGBO Films, and it was released in March 2021. It was directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and stars Tom Holland and Ciara Bravo. The company is very active with many other projects in development. Before joining The Hideaway, Rhodes was President of Bold Films (2013-2016), a boutique independent production movie and television finance company. At Bold, Rhodes oversaw a large slate of movie and television shows as head of creative and production activities. During his time at the company, Bold released WHIPLASH (Sony Classics), directed by Damien Chazelle and starring Miles Teller, JK Simmons; NIGHTCRAWLER (Open Road), directed by Dan Gilroy and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Riz Ahmed. Both films received numerous nominations and wins from The Academy Awards, The Golden Globes, the Independent Spirit Awards, and dozens of others around the world. Bold also financed and produced the box office success, NO ESCAPE (Weinstein), directed by John Erick Dowdle and starring Owen Wilson, Lake Bell, Pierce Brosnan; LOST RIVER (Warner Bros.), the critically acclaimed movie directed by Ryan Gosling and starring Saoirse Ronan, Ben Mendelsohn, Matt Smith, Eva Mendes. Rhodes executive produced SHOT CALLER (Saban Films), directed by Ric Roman Waugh and starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lake Bell. Bold also made NEON DEMON (Amazon), directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and starring Elle Fanning, Keanu Reeves. In television, Bold had two series on the air including ABC’s drama series Black Box, and the SyFy action series Dominion, based on Bold Films 2010 hit film, LEGION (Sony). Prior to Bold Films, Rhodes was President of Mandalay Vision (2011-2013), a Mandalay Entertainment Group division owned by entertainment legend, Peter Guber. Mandalay is a boutique production and movie financing company that focuses on innovative storytelling with premiere talent. At Mandalay, Rhodes produced (partial titles) DARK PLACES (A24), based on Gillian Flynn’s best-selling novel, starring Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Chloe Grace Moretz, Christina Hendricks; THE VOICES (Lionsgate), directed by Marjane Satrapi, starring Ryan Reynolds, Anna Kendrick, Gemma Arterton; amongst several more movies. While serving as President, Mandalay released BERNIE (Alchemy), starring Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine and directed by Richard Linklater; SOUL SURFER (Sony), starring Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt, AnnaSophia Robb; HORNS (Dimension), starring Daniel Radcliffe and directed by Alexandre Aja; and WHEN THE GAME STANDS TALL (Sony), starring Jim Caviezel, Laura Dern; amongst many others. Rhodes was Founder & CEO of his own production company, Persistent Entertainment (1998-2011), one of the most active production companies in the independent filmmaking community where he produced over 20 pictures in 12 years. He produced (select titles) the romantic comedy ACCIDENTAL LOVE (Alchemy), directed by David O’Russell starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Jessica Biel, James Marsden, Catherine Keener, Tracy Morgan; Supernatural thriller PASSENGERS (Sony), directed by Rodrigo Garcia, starring Anne Hathaway, Patrick Wilson; Sci-fi thriller SOUTHLAND TALES (Sony), directed by Richard Kelly, starring Dwayne Johnson and an all-star cast; Family Drama AN UNFINISHED LIFE (Miramax), directed by Lasse Hallstrom, starring Robert Redford, Morgan Freeman, Jennifer Lopez; amongst many more. Before starting his career as a producer, Rhodes worked as an assistant to producer Scott Rudin based at Paramount Pictures. During his time there, Rudin produced CLUELESS, SABRINA, MARVIN’S ROOM, FIRST WIVES CLUB, MOTHER, RANSOM, and TRUMAN SHOW. Rhodes was also an assistant to producer Marvin Worth based at Warner Bros., working on such films as DIABOLIQUE and NORMA JEAN & MARILYN. Prior to that, Rhodes gained experience working in production on dozens of movie and television shows. Matthew Rhodes graduated with a B.A. from Ohio University’s School of Telecommunications in Film and Television (Producing and Directing). Rhodes grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Rhodes currently lives in Pacific Palisades, California with his wife and daughter.
